People keep trying to rewrite the Shedeur Sanders draft story. Here’s what I said:
“5 rounds…. You can’t get around that. Multiple insider reports of ego-tanked interviews…
Stop trying to alter history; he made some horrendous personal decisions; then he got his chance, & turned it around; the highest success rating under pressure, the 180 turnaround in respectfulness and every other personal and professional aspect possible.
Yes, he’s doing the work and making incredible personal and professional advances, so STFU, and let him do his thing, but stop trying to lie about what happened.”
The post I was answering said the whole slide was media spin, because a Browns coach told him “I was going to draft you.”
Nice thing to say. Doesn’t change the draft board.
I’m not knocking the kid. I’m giving him more credit, not less. Falling and climbing back out is a better story than “everybody was wrong.” Pretend the fall never happened and you erase the part where he actually fixed it.
Own it. Do the work. He is.
Let the man play.
I’ve been saying this about him for a while.
So there’s no room for any consideration that a young man makes mistakes and learns from them? Everyone in the NFL is racist? I’ve heard that one…
Everyone who isn’t 💯 in his corner on every subject is racist…. Heard that too,
I’ve seen him throw his college teammates under the bus when his team lost: ego over maturity; that’s a young man’s failing, & he is a young man.
The point is he learned more about life from that, than he did before he stepped out from his father’s protective umbrella; & excelled at that too after taking a beating from the draft experience.
I look forward to seeing what he does after this year. I don’t care what team he’s on as long as we get to see those games and imagine how high this Sanders rises and amazing experiences that brings for everyone involved.
So stop seeing hate where there is none. Take off the rose colored glasses and see that reality has many different kinds of challenges, & racism isn’t the all encompassing challenge it used to be.
Aside from this long-winded racializing, Shedeur had incredibly bad interviews with NFL teams for the draft; he do some things based on arrogance and paid a price for that. Since then he made some dramatic changes in how he presents himself and how he responds to folks everywhere.
He went from self sabotage, to reliable performer and team player, & even leader.
The change is dramatic. He learned the lesson he needed to learn and is fighting his way out of that doghouse in a spectacular way. The Browns don’t deserve him, & other teams have been saying a lot of positive things about him lately based on his performance.
This has never been about race; this has been about the previous drama and attitude. Something he has obviously turned around.
Take race off the table; it doesn’t belong here. Just let the man play and hope he lands in a much better team soon.
Sanders for-sure did himself no favors heading into the draft with his nonsense, but it looks like ever since he’s been all work and focus, & everyone loves a Cinderella story, so we’re engaged and wanting to see him do well and redeeming himself. That’s the sum total of my interest.
