A thought experiment I had fun with:
Ponder if you will, the paragon of liberalism, the generational icon of the Democrat party, & their most successful and globally adored President in all of American history…
Then ask yourself: Where would John F Kennedy be on the political spectrum today if he were alive?
This where the fun begins, & this is all fact-based:
Answer: MAGA. 🤯 JFK would most likely sit outside today’s Democratic mainstream—closer to a moderate Republican. Keep in mind, MAGA is more progressive than hardcore conservatives. When he first ran in 2016, his policy positions were closer to Hillary Clinton’s at that time when examined dispassionately. His promise to Republicans was that he would stand by their existing platform, and he followed through on that promise time and time again.
JFK’s own documented views align more closely with the MAGA/Republican emphases on controlled borders, rule of law, and citizenship-based voting and taxation than with progressive/liberal positions.
JFK (in A Nation of Immigrants and as president) advocated reforming the national-origins quota system, which he called discriminatory and at odds with American ideals of equal opportunity. He proposed a system prioritizing skills as one of the primary requirements. -only what the country could absorb in the national interest. He would most likely have viewed uncontrolled illegal crossings as a failure of policy and security, given his statements during his lifetime.
In JFK’s day, Federal law and broad consensus restricted voting in federal elections to citizens (born or naturalized). JFK repeatedly defined citizenship that way and tied equal rights and participation to it (e.g., Citizenship Day remarks). He urged Americans to vote as an act of faith in democracy.
MAGA policies see JFK in strong alignment. MAGA emphasizes documentary proof of citizenship for registration, clean voter rolls, preventing non-citizens from voting, and treating the citizen franchise as exclusive. This matches the mid-century consensus JFK operated under and his constitutional/rule-of-law framing. JFK’s emphasis on citizenship as the basis for full political rights, combined with the era’s uncontroversial prohibition on non-citizen voting, places him firmly against diluting the electorate with non-citizens. On this specific issue he tracks far more closely with MAGA priorities than with progressive resistance to verification.
Who does that sound like? Could it be… Oh, I don’t know, Trump?
To be fair, this also tracks with documented statements from the 70’s – 80’s by Reid, Schumer, Clinton, Obama & Pelosi, among the vast majority of Democrats too… Why did they all suddenly do an about-face? -TDS
It’s no wonder then that RFK Jr. is able to work with Trump today; He’s still staying true to the ideals of his father & Uncle than the rest of his family & seems to value integrity over hype, as much as he may disagree with methods tactics…
